League Rules for the Doc Wright Golf League Back

  • Match Play handicap strokes are determined by the hardest holes on the nine being played, using the assigned handicap ranking printed on the scorecard. The hole ranked as the number 1 handicap hole is considered the "hardest" while the hole ranked as the number 18 handicap hole is considered the "easiest". Examples.

  • Determine which players play each other in a match by handicap. The person with the lowest handicap on Team A plays the person with the lowest handicap on Team B. This is based on the people playing the match. If one team has two players with the same handicap, then they get to select who from the other team they wish to play. If both teams have players with matching handicaps, the team with the lowest handicap gets to decide who they want to play. If the person with the lowest handicap on the team does not show up to play, and no sub is available, the team member that did show up is now the low handicap member on his team for that match, and thus must play the low handicap member of the opposing team.

  • Tee honors are given to the team with the player having the lowest gross score on the previous hole. First hole honors are determined by an agreeable gentlemen's contest, such as throwing a tee in the air to see which player it is pointing to when it lands on the ground and having a player from that player's team start the match.

  • All scheduled matches must be played at Madden Golf Course, with every effort made to play on the scheduled date at the scheduled tee time. Any change to the scheduled date and scheduled tee time must be agreed to by at leaset one member of each team beforehand. Simply put: if you are wanting to play at some time other than your scheduled date and time, you must get permission from someone on the opposing team. Otherwise you are forfeiting your match.

  • Matches are only postponed from their scheduled dates and times when the course is officially closed. Otherwise, any no-shows without subs are considered forfeits. The only exception to this is when at least one member from each team agrees to something else before the scheduled tee time.

  • In an effort to speed up play, there is a 9 stroke limit on each hole for each player. If during the course of a match a player determines for whatever reason that they can not complete the match, they have the option of forfeiting their score (as if they never showed up, which could change the complexion of the match as a whole) or taking a score of 9 on each of the holes not completed.

  • A player without an opponent automatically receives two matchplay points for playing. The other two points, for stroke play, are determined by whether the golfer shot his handicap, plus one. In other words, if you are playing the back nine, which has a par of 35, and you shoot a net 36 or better, you get 2 strokeplay points. An addition to this rule was put in place in 2001. In this scenario, if you shot a net 37(your handicap plus one plus one), you would receive 1 strokeplay point, whereas before you would have received none.

  • Any Board Member can assist golfers with interpretation of league rules and the rules of golf.  If an appeal of a decision is requested on a league rule, the league President has the final say on the issue. He also presides over golf rules, if and when the Rules Guru is not available.

  • A scheduled week of regular season play becomes "official" when one more than half of the matches have completed their rounds before the course is closed for the day, whether it be by rain, nightfall, or any other reason.  If the required number of matches are not completed, the matches can be rescheduled if the annual schedule has make-up dates built into it, and one of those dates is available.  If no make-up dates are available, then the entire week is cancelled and any scores turned in will be discarded.  If on the other hand, one more than half of the matches do finish their rounds before the course is closed for the day, those matches not completed must do so prior to the end of the regular season to obtain points credit.  When finishing a round that was started on a different day, the teams should start on the tee of the hole immediately following the last hole that all players in the match completed, or agree to some other solution.

  • Skin awards are only given to those that finish their round on an officially completed scheduled calendar day of play.  Those entered that can not finish their round that day will have their entry fee returned to them. Skin awards that are not won, net or gross, will be carried over and added to the next week's award.  Net Skins are awarded based on a random drawing of a particular hole each week, while Gross Skins are given for any of the nine holes that a player has the lone lowest score (one tie, all tie on any given hole).
  • Any Hole-In-One awards, on the other hand, will be given on any completed round that is turned in for any officially completed match as defined in these rules, even if the match is not completed on the scheduled date of play.  The hole-in-one must be witnessed and it must be shot at Madden Golf Course.
  • Hole-In-One awards are given by schedule date, meaning that the award will be divided evenly by all of those that score a hole-in-one on any card that is turned in for an officially completed match for a specific scheduled day of play, as opposed to only one person being awarded who shot the first hole-in-one in relation to the clock that day .
