Each match will be a nine-hole match, keeping score just like the regular season.  The team with the most points in the match wins the match and advances to the next round. There is NO MATCHING OF CARDS in the tournament. Each match must be played.
Ties: The DWGL standard for tie-breakers is to start from the last hole played, and going backwards, find the first team with a net birdie (or better) that is not matched by either member on the opposite team. Note: a net par or worse does not count. It has to be a net birdie or better. If one team has a player with a net birdie on the last hole, but the other team has a player with a net eagle, the team with the net eagle wins. If no net birdies (or better) are on the card for the last hole, then you proceed backwards to the next hole, and so on.  So play well on those closing holes!
Occasionally a foursome may elect to play "sudden death" in case of a tie.  For this to be the case, all 4 people in the match must agree to that prior to the match beginning.  Work out the details among your group to decide the particulars.  Be specific.  If an unresolvable dispute arises, scoring will be done the traditional way. Note that all Sudden Death ties should start on the first hole you played.
All matches must be played at Madden, in the regular rotation of nines.  For example, week 1 will be played on the back nine (LONG SIDE)since we just played the front nine last week.  Round 2 will be played on the front nine, and so on.  All matches must be completed prior to the Outing on September 16.  If a team member cannot play on Thursday, they can ask the other team if the match can be played at a different date and time.  If that is not agreeable, a DWGL sub can be used.  Note that Regulars are not available as subs.  If a player turns out to be a no-show, the match is played with the three players that are there, and scoring proceeds as normal (yes, a one person team could win the match via a tie-breaker or the second player not playing to his handicap and the one player taking 4, etc.).
If at the end of the match it is a 4/4 split, if one of the teams has a sub, the other team with two regulars wins.  If both teams have a sub, proceed as normal.
During the tournament this year, the 9 stroke limit per hole has been set aside.  Play each hole out.
